Herman Richard, Berry, 65, passed away at 2:46 am on Sunday November 25, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.


He was born on September 23, 1947 in Alton, IL the son of Robert and Ruth (Stone) Berry.

He married Joan Masiero on June 9, 1980 in Godfrey, IL. She survives.

Herman was an Electrician for the Olin Corporation. He enjoyed wood working and remodeling. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He adored every one of them. 

He is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, Robert and his wife (Robin) of Alton, and Kenneth Flannery of Herculaneum, MO; a daughter and her husband, Ann and Gary Ballesteros of Bethalto; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jack and Ted Berry, Jason and Ranee Ballesteros; Kiley and Jeremy Pfeifer, Nick Ballesteros, Ryan Ballesteros, and Jamie Ballesteros; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kaitlyn and Bradley Pfeifer, and Kyle, Brock, and Cade Ballesteros; eight brothers and sisters along with their spouses, Sandy and Wes Stewart, Mary Drew, Danny and Nancy Berry, Patrick Berry Minnie Bell and Joe Sheppard, Peggy and Greg Hosford, Jackie West, and Robert  and Fay Berry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Debra Maxine Smith, and a brother, John Berry.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be held 10 am Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Hofferberg officiating.

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL.

Memorials may be made to Research for the cure of PSP, Progressive Supranuclear Palsey, or the Zion Lutheran School tuition assistance fund.
