Herbert “John” Harshbarger

Herbert “John” Harshbarger, age 62, passed away at 3:44 am Saturday June 11,2011 at home with his family by his side.
He was born on December 26, 1948 in Alton, IL, the son of Frederick F. & Rosemary (Stoltz-Jun) Harshbarger.
He married Lorraine “Lori” J. Clyde on March 10, 1969 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. He was employed at the Alton Box Boards as a pipe fitter from October 1968 until January 1999 and then worked for ten years as a groundskeeper at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He enjoyed boating, fishing and camping, but loved being around his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Lori; two sons and their spouses, John and Tammie Harshbarger of Bethalto, and Joe and Christine Harshbarger of Muskegon MI; three granddaughters Samantha, Johnna, and Olivia; one sister and her spouse, Pat and Bill Maher of Alton; three brothers and their spouses, Fred “Fritz” and Linda Harshbarger of Opelika, AL, Ron and Renee Harshbarger of Alton, and Andy and Mary Harshbarger of Alton and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marie McNamee and Debbie Violet.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 13, 2011 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Staten-Fine Funeral Home.
A mass of Christian Burial will be on 10 at Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, concluding the service military rites will be preformed by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice and or the Siteman Cancer Research in St. Louis, MO.
