Henrietta Pearl "Dumpy" Kamp, 89, passed away at 8:47 pm on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on October 10, 1935, in Bunker Hill, IL, to William Henry and Barbara (Pruitt) Hughes.
On October 10, 1953, Henrietta married Bruce Kamp in Jerseyville, IL. They spent 57 wonderful years together before his passing in 2011.
Her 2 year old sister could not pronounce Henrietta so she became known to her family and many friends as "Dumpy."
Henrietta worked for the State of Illinois and retired from the Alzheimer's Association in Chicago. She was a lifetime member of Godfrey Congregational Church and was actively involved in the community. She was member and past president of the Godfrey Women's Club and was a long-time participant in the Godfrey Khoury League.
Henrietta is survived by her sons, David Kamp of Alton, IL, and Dr. Brad (Nilgun) Kamp of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Gerald (Sarah) Bennett of New Canaan, CT, Amy Kamp of Tampa, FL, and Lydia Kamp of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Luke, Juliet, and Charlie Bennett; along with many nieces and nephews including, Cheryl Vambaketes and Diane Vore who were very helpful during her later years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Karen Underkofler, and siblings Virginia Martin, Betty Clarke, Gwenda Warford, William Hughes, and Robert Hughes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Homes in Godfrey, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Godfrey Congregational Church, with Rev. John Pawloski officiating.
Memorials are suggested to Ruth's Pantry at Godfrey Congregational Church.
