Helen “Big H” L. (Savage) Gray, age 70, passed away at 5:16 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Alton Memorial Hospital, Alton, IL.
She was born on May 25, 1942 in Alton to the late Leonard and Violet (Bell) Savage.
Helen worked as a cook on the barge lines for over 25 years retiring in 2007. She enjoyed Crafts, going to yard sales and working on houses and helping to remodel them. She was a Woman of “True Grit.”
She is survived by two sons; James and his spouse Melinda Cross of Alton, Robert Lee Ewing of Alton, eighteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, six sisters; Barbara Hoaglin of Alton, Jody and Bob Shewmake of Alton, Sharon and Jim Bock of Alton, Regina and Terry Cook of Godfrey, Nancy Steel of Alton, and La Donna Dallas of Alton, one brother; Kim Wayne Savage of Alton, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son; Vance Ewing, two sisters; Pat Enlow, and Carolyn Sue Savage, and two brothers; Leonard Earl Savage and David Dallas.
Visitation will be from 10 am till time of service at 1 pm, Thursday September 20, 2012 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL.
Per her wishes cremation will be accorded.
