Harvey L. Chapman, 86, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday, September 3, 2012 at Alton Rehabilitation. Born December 8, 1925 in Brighton, he was the son of Norman L. and Ida May (Seago) Chapman. Mr. Chapman was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton where he served as a deacon and usher. He retired in 1990 after 31 years of service as a pipefitter/welder for Laclede Steel. On December 11, 1949 in White Hall, he married Margaret L. “Sally” Hammon. She preceded him in death on December 23, 2000. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Michael Thornton of Waterloo, a son and daughter-in-law, Garry L. and Sally Chapman of Alton, seven grandchildren, Jason Chapman (Louise), Joshua Chapman (Molly), Justin Chapman (Stephanie), Courtney Stalcup and her fiancé Chris Wood, Ryan Stalcup and his girlfriend, Kaitlyn Brooks, Nicholas Thornton, and Sarah Thornton, seven great grandchildren, Emma, Joe, Atticus, and Tucker Chapman, Chloe Wood, Grayson Chapman, and Kolten Stalcup, two sisters, Mary Ellen Hetzer of Roodhouse, and Betty Jean Hester (Dave) of Temple, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Patricia S. Stalcup, and four brothers, Homer, John, Richard, and Maurice Chapman. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
