Harvey Harmon, 80, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, September 22, 2011 at home with his family by his side.
Born June14, 1931 in Grafton, he was the son of Charles “Jack” and Ruth (Osburn) Harmon. Harvey married the former Pat Klunk on February 9, 1957 at Holy Ghost Church in Jerseyville. She survives.
He retired from Illinois Power and served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 A.F. & A.M., the Alton Eagles Foe No. 254, VFW Post 1308, and the Alton-Wood River Sportsman’s Club. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Matt (Gretchen) Harmon, and Mark (Lori) Harmon all of Alton, three granddaughters, Rachel (Elliott) Fergurson, Abby Harmon, and Megan Flatt, all of Alton, three sisters, Ruby (Bob) Kessinger of Hartford, Charlotte Workman of Roxana, and Mary (Dean) Koontz of Greenville, one brother, Dale (Joyce) Harmon of Grafton, a sister-in-law, Carol Harmon of Collinsville, a brother-in-law, Rich McGee of Venice, a loving uncle, “Doc” Buck, and numerous nieces, nephews and great friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Myrtle McGee, and two brothers, Valgene Harmon and Jim Harmon.
Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. with a Masonic service at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2011. Father Peter Donohoe will officiate. Burial will be at Scenic Hills Cemetery in Grafton with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.

Following the burial, a buffet luncheon will be served from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Alton Knights of Columbus, 405 East 4th St., Alton, IL.
