Harry Oller

Harry H. Oller, 76, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 in Tampa, Florida.

 

He was born in Taylorville, IL the son of the late Guy and Flossie (Morgan) Oller.

He married Jeanne Brady on September 26, 1964 in St. Louis, MO. She survives. 

He graduated from Taylorville High School in Taylorville, IL and graduated from Milliken University in Decatur, IL in 1961, he then went on to get his Real Estate Certificate from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo in 1964. He was a MAI designated Real Estate appraiser often dealing with litigation and condemnation. His career included working for Mercantile Mortgage Company of St. Louis, MO from 1962 to 1965, Germania Federal Savings and Loan of Alton, IL from 1965 to 1969. He owned and operated Oller Appraisal Company in Alton, IL from 1969 to 1991. After moving to Florida he worked for the Florida Department of Transportation from 1991 until his retirement in 2001.

He enjoyed golf and writing. He wrote many articles for various professional publications, but what he enjoyed writing most was humor. The Golf Magazine published his article on the psyche of the average golfer in 1983. He had a regular column in the Gateway Golfer, written under the name of Bogey Oller, in 1983 to 1984. He also published a satire in 2009 based on the mortgage industry. 

He is survived by his wife Jeanne Oller and four children and their spouses; Todd Oller of Merritt Island, FL, Guy and Christine Oller of Great Falls, MT, Colleen (Oller) and Brad Gaskill of Godfrey, IL, and Daniel Oller of Abbeville, LA. His is also survived by nine grandchildren: Whitney Oller, Alicia Oller, Jesse Belcourt, Guy Brad Affleck, Chase Lawrence, Kyle Oller, Tyler Oller, Ellie Gaskill and Adam Gaskill. In addition, he is survived by his brother Richard Oller of Orlando FL and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Tom Oller.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9:30 am, Monday, January 16, 2012 till time of mass at 11 am, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. Delix Michel as celebrant.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, IL.
