Harold Souder, 86, died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehab. Born December 25, 1928 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of Harold and Ida (Cummings) Souder. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting. He was a partner with Hal-Bern Auto Supply in Upper Alton. On May 12, 1951 he married the former Dorothy Imogene Schumacher in Alton. She preceded him in death on March 26, 1998. Surviving is a son, Bret A. Souder (Betsy) of Dow, five grandchildren, Shawn Hughart (Melanie) of Holiday Shores, Jeffrey Hughart of Brighton, Tamara Thrash (Shawn) of Brighton, Brandon Souder (Danielle Saunders) of Godfrey, and Brittany Talley (Jerrad) of Dow, eight great grandchildren, Samuel, Stephen, Caitlin, Boston, Aiden, Tristan, Connor, and Cayden. Also surviving is a son-in-law, James Hughart (Mary Kay) of Fieldon. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamella Hughart and his uncle and aunt, Forrest and Mary Morgan who raised him from the age of three. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2014. Reverend Tom Olney will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be given to the Brittany youth Shooting Group in Bunker Hill.
