Harold E. Sileven, 89, passed away at 1:10 am Wednesday Nov. 9, 2011.
He was born on January 29, 1922 in West Frankfort, IL to Charles and Effie Darnell Sileven.
He married Georgia Lorene Essary on July 29, 1945 in Alton, IL. She survives.
He retired from Laclede Steel in Alton where he was a Wire Mill foreman. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific, 1940 to 1946. He was a member of Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton where he was a Trustee and a Deacon. Harold built his own home and was a great handyman. Harold never met an ice cream he didn’t like.
He is survived by three daughters, Karen and Wesley Gene Lohr of Godfrey, Marilyn Sileven of Orlando, FL, and Teresa and Bob Tripp of Godfrey; four grandchildren, Terry Lohr, Renee Brown, Andy Wittman and Amy Olive; six great grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Mark and Noah Brown, Kari Lohr and Grant Wittman; two brothers, Harry Sileven of West Frankfort, IL, and Cecil Sileven of West Frankfort, IL; four sisters, Dorothy Odum of West Frankfort, IL, Mary Smith of Globe, AZ, Lucille Browning of West Frankfort, IL, and June Culpepper of West Frankfort, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack and Charles Sileven and one sister, Ruth Van Dusen.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 pm Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral service will be at 10 am, Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton with the Rev. Mike Myers officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Memorial Park in Godfrey, IL. with Military honors by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
