Gwen Dwiggins, 63, entered into rest at her home surrounded by her children in Concord on February 20, 2011.
She was born in Batesville, Ark. on June 2, 1947 to Lawrence and Marcella (Smith) Evans.
Gwen led a fulfilling life as an advocate for the disadvantaged, a compassionate teacher and healer. Gwen enjoyed a good cup of coffee, fun music, and lots of laughter. She believed life is a journey to be enjoyed through the quality of relationships both with oneself and others. She was a fun-loving wife, mother, sister, and granny who worked tirelessly with hundreds of children and their families as a teacher, daycare provider, and director at the Bay Area Crisis Nursery for over 10 years.
Gwen is survived by her children, David Dwiggins and wife Shannon, Jason Dwiggins, Rachel Dwiggins-Beeler and husband Eric, Joshua Dwiggins and wife Chevon; mother, Marcella Evans; siblings, Dr. Larry Evans Jr., Don Evans, Ruth Dwiggins and Rosemary Sammartano; grandchildren, Kathryn, Aisling, Maaeva, Victoria, Ethan, Isabel and Jaden.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Dwiggins; father, Lawrence Evans; sister, Kathleen Ash and two infant sons, Robert Jr., and Jason P. Dwiggins.
Please join her family in the celebration of Gwen’s life at a visitation on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey from 9:30 a.m. until Father Steve Pohlman celebrates a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Gwen’s memory may be made to Bay Area Crisis Nursery, 1506 Mendocino Drive, Concord, CA 94521.
