Gregory Gaylord
Alton |
Gregory Feddersen Gaylord, 76, passed away at 8:27 pm on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 in Godfrey, IL. He was born August 16, 1948 in Alton, IL to Earl J. and Josephine (Feddersen) Gaylord. He married Sharon Craig on December 9, 1986. She survives.
Greg was instrumental in running the Stratford Hotel in Alton, Illinois until the Gaylord family sold in 1995. In its day, Stratford and its restaurant, the Beef N Bird, were the best in Alton! While managing the hotel, Greg began a restaurant and janitorial supply business in the late 60s, eventually becoming known as Metro Supply & Equipment Company in 1972. It still operates in Godfrey to this day! Greg enjoyed taking trips to Walt Disney World and Lake Ozark with his grandsons and family, and he delighted in spending quality time with his grandsons whenever possible. Greg was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan through thick and thin! He also relished engaging in intellectual debates. Throughout his life, he maintained a curious nature, always posing questions and enjoying the discovery of their answers.
Greg was born into a family-owned hotel and restaurant business with a hospitality focus. Over the years, this became an important part of who he was. His desire to provide hospitality was displayed across all aspects of his life, from the Stratford Hotel to Metro Supply, to his personal life. He loved to socialize with friends and family, always wanting to make sure everyone was having a good time.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Sean (Jennifer) Craig of St. Jacob, IL; a daughter, Jennifer Gaylord of Godfrey, IL. Much loved grandsons, Nate and Alex Craig, of St. Jacob, IL; a brother, Gordon (Rhonda) Gaylord of Alton, IL, and a sister, Janet (Frank) Brundick of St. Louis, MO; along with numerous nephews and nieces and beloved extended family!
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jill Gaylord Rainford; and a brother Geoffrey Gaylord.
