Grace Nell McLaughlin, 88, passed away at 11:40 am Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton with her family by her side.
She was born on August 8, 1927 in Coffeyville, KS, the daughter of Albert and Rosella “Grace” (Wade) Hastings.
Grace was a lifelong member of the Disciple of Christ Christian Church in Coffeyville, KS and later in St. Louis, MO in Moline Acres, where she was involved in bible studies and the choir. Plus she edited the church paper. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, served in leadership in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and she wrote for Coffeyville newspaper in the society column. She enjoyed sewing, reading, listening to music and most of all she loved to play the piano.
She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Charlotte and Terry French of East Alton and Nancy and Max Welch of Oxford, MS; five grandchildren and their spouses, Vanessa and Michael Fritsche, Travis and Amy French, Brandon French and his fiancée, Stephanie Chow, Emily and Kenneth DeSouza and Monica and Craig Lovejoy; six great grandchildren, Hailee, Zachary, Arwen, Claire, Katherine and Cole and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Charlotte Licklider, Vivian Conant and Mary Francis Miller and six brothers, Wade, Albert, Austin, Rodney, Lawrence and Aubrey.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until services at 10:30 am Monday, October 26, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Dr. Judy Ridlen officiating.
Burial will be at 12:45 pm at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Saint Louis, Missouri.
