Gloria Gene Mathews, 76, of Richland, passed away at 3:50 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
She was born on January 8, 1948, the daughter of Eugene Wesley and Mary (Stout) Walter.
Gloria married Riley Daniel "Dan" Mathews on January 3, 1967, in Alton, IL, and celebrated 58 years together. He survives.
She was a cherished member of New Wine Fellowship Church in Wood River and held profound love for her Lord and her New Wine Fellowship Family. Gloria retired from Alton Memorial Hospital and always spoke fondly of those she loved. She cherished the time spent on their farm in Richland, MO.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Riley "Dan" Mathews of Richland, MO; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith & Kristie Mathews of Alton, IL; two daughters, Tracy Wallace of Alton, IL, and Dana Gabrielle of Staunton, IL; five grandsons, J.D. Mathews, Sam Wallace, Luke Wallace, Levi Wallace, Ian Gabrielle; three granddaughters, Karley Coatney, Chyann Coatney, and Cara Woodward; a sister-in-law, Sharon Cox of Alton; and her extended bonus children who she loved as her own, Darrin & Tammy Kaufmann and Zane & Janean Northrip.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Riley Wilson & Ida Mathews Bryant, a sister, Donna Barker, five sisters-in-law, Donna Ellis, Geraldine Trimm, twin infant sisters-in-law, Rita & Frieda Mathews, Joan Mathews, four brothers-in-law, Rodney Mathews, Curt Trimm, Jim Ellis, and Jerry Cox, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosetta & Jim Stone; and an uncle, James Walter.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A celebration of life visitation will be held 11:00 am until time of memorial service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at New Wine Fellowship Church in Wood River, IL.
Inurnment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date.
