Glenda Heflin

Jerseyville |

Glenda Lee Heflin, 88, passed away peacefully at 5:23 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025 at EverCare of Jerseyville.

Born on October 22, 1936, in Jersey County, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Ethyle (Ray) Kraushaar. A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, Glenda earned her master’s degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and spent her career shaping young minds as a teacher in the Alton School District.

Glenda had a generous heart and a love for sharing. Whether it was the beautiful flowers she nurtured or the delicious baked goods she always had on hand, she found joy in brightening the lives of those around her. Her neighbors and friends could always count on a treat plate and a warm conversation with her.

Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom, and in a final act of generosity, she chose to continue teaching after her passing by donating her body to scientific research at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Gregory Michel of Saint Louis, Missouri; two bonus grandchildren, Charlie and Noah Michel; and lifelong high school friends, Richard Gilworth of Jerseyville,  Dolores Ebert of Edwardsville and Jeanine Duncan of Brentwood, Tennessee.  She also leaves behind special friends, Kathy (Bob) Albrecht of Jerseyville, Jerry Jolly of Alton and Dora Crowe of Jerseyville; as well as a dear neighbor, Jim Ryan of Jerseyville, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Kraushaar.

Her family and friends extend their gratitude to Vitas Hospice, especially Tiffany, for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Glenda in her final days.

Glenda’s legacy lives on in the knowledge she shared, the friendships she nurtured, and the kindness she spread. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
