Gladys Gertrude “Sally” (Fahlgren) Beaber of Godfrey, Illinois, died peacefully on November 19, 2013 at 6:35 p.m. at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey, Illinois.
She was born in Burlington, Iowa on August 21, 1911 to George and Elsie Fahlgren.
Sally grew up in Burlington, Iowa. She graduated from Burlington High School. After school, she worked at National Research Company and Klein’s Department Store.
She married Jack Beaber on May 19, 1934. They were happily married for 58 years.
Sally was a member of First United Church of Christ in Burlington, Iowa, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Women’s Auxiliary, and King’s Daughters Service Club.
After moving to Alton, Illinois in 1978 to be closer to her family, she became a member of the Godfrey Congregational Church. She attended Senior Service Plus on a regular basis to play bridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her twin brother Glenn, and her other siblings Eleanor, Bernice, Malcolm, Dorothy and Jean.
She is survived by her only son, Michael Beaber and his wife Barbara of Alton, Illinois. Three grandchildren, Dawn Beaber and Shawn Barnard of Jerseyville, Illinois. Cami (Beaber) Giertz and her husband John of Alton, Illinois and Michael Beaber, Jr. and his wife Allyson of Godfrey, Illinois. Six great-grandchildren Jake Aurelio, Cali Giertz, Mackenzie Giertz, Josie Giertz, Michael Beaber, III, and Alivia Beaber and many other nieces and nephews.
Sally was a twin and outlived all of her 6 siblings. She was a breast cancer survivor. She lived for a long time and was very proud of that. It was an honor for her that her son was Superintendent of the Alton Community School District. She was excited to have such a fulfilling life and enjoyed spending time with her family and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. She attended as many activities as she could. She had lots of friends that she loved to spend time with at church, and Senior Services Plus. She also enjoyed sitting at home with her neighbors. Sally loved playing card games and liked going out to eat.
The family wishes to acknowledge a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Alton Memorial Hospital, Fountains IV, and Blu-Fountain Manor for their outstanding care.
In celebration of her life, a memorial service will be held at Godfrey Congregational Church, Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
