Gladys M. Bennett, 91, of Bethalto, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
She was born in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada, on September 28, 1933, the daughter of Bert and Nina (Mercer) Russel. Gladys married Jerry F. Bennett, Sr., in Oklahoma on October 21, 1956. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1994, after their divorce.
Gladys worked for 28 years at Wedge Bank in Alton, as the Assistant Vice President. She was a member of St. Paul Episcopal in Alton, the Zonta Women's Auxiliary of Alton, and the Wood River Sportsman Club. She enjoyed golfing, the political atmosphere, and spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Cindy Bennett, Jr. of Bethalto; four grandchildren, Cassey Lauren Bernstein, Trevor Jordan, Tadd Richards, and Samantha Thomas; and three great-grandchildren, Jaxon Thomas, Emery Bennett, and Finnegan Bennett.
Along with her parents and ex-husband, Jerry, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherrie Richards, and a brother, Bert Norman Russel.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 14, 2025, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jerseyville Manor Memory Care.
