Gillum "Jim" E. Burgess

Gillum "Jim" E. Burgess, 81, went to be with the Lord at 4:27 am Saturday, November 27, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.

He was born on July 19, 1929 in Granite City, the son of Gillum E. & Gladys (Moreland) Burgess Sr.

He married Barbara J. (Lindquist) on December 19, 1987 in Meadowbrook. She survives.

Jim served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. He received a master’s degree from the St. Louis Univ. He was employed for the Department of Defense with the Army in St. Louis, MO as a Metallurgical Engineer for 10 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Emmanuel Free Methodist Church in Fosterburg, IL and the Collinsville Masonic Lodge # 712. He enjoyed traveling, watching basketball, baseball and football and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters and a their spouses, Karen & Steve Harris of Illinois and Kay & Ron Finnan of Collinsville; two step sons and their spouses, Dan & Gail Duckels of Carlinville and Dean & Julia Duckels of Cottage Hills; four grandchildren, Kyle, Chad, Jennifer and Brian; five step grandchildren, Amanda, David, Whitney, Lyndsay and Julie and four brothers, sisters and their spouses, Shirley & Roger Stock of Litchfield, Sally & Ray Sharpless of Belton, MO, David Burgess of Belton, TX and Pat & Neil Take of Whittington, IL.

His parents precede him in death.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday, November 29, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home .

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Tuesday November 30, 2010 at the Emmanuel Free Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Scandrett officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Military rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Free Methodist Church in Fosterburg, IL
