Gertrude Bick

Gertrude Theresa Bick, 92, died at 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.She was born in Brussels on Sept. 10, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Henry & Anna (Rose) Klocke.Gertrude grew up in the Meppen area, and attended Brussels High School.  At the age of 19, Gertrude married Joseph William Bick on Nov. 23, 1938 in Calhoun County, and they had just celebrated their 20th anniversary when he was killed in an automobile accident on Nov. 27, 1958.That untimely and tragic event left Gertrude in a position to raise their seven children alone.  She has dedicated herself to her family and was keeping tabs on the whole bunch until the evening of her death.Surviving are her children & their spouses, Betty & Bill Cunningham of Pine Island, Fl., Robert & Sandy Bick of Dade County, Fl., David & Terri Bick of Gainesville, Fl., James & Cindy Bick of Jerseyville, Dennis & Pam Bick of Grafton, and Bonnie Jones of Jerseyville; a daughter in law, Melba Bick of Kane; 14 Grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren & great great grandchildren; and a sister , Viola Tepen of Alton.She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Bick on Sept. 24, 2009; two grandchildren, Mark Cherrington & Melissa Bick; a daughter in law, Barbara Bick; a son in law, William Jones; a brother, William Hanneken; and sisters, Dorothy, Mary and Alice.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., on Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday.She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to her family to assist with expenses in care of the funeral home.
