Gertrude Sheppard

Gertrude L. Sheppard, 94, went home to be with the Lord at 6:40 pm Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Bethalto Care Center with her family by her side.

She was born August 19, 1918 in Jersey County, the daughter of the late C.C. and Gladys (White) Wiegand.

She married Neal Sheppard August 5, 1939.  He survives. 

After graduation from East Alton Wood River High School, she was employed by Western Cartridge.  She later entered Alton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and was in the first graduating class in 1941. 

In addition to her husband of 73 years, she is survived by five children and their spouses, Barbara Henke, Michael and Connie Sheppard, Rhonda Sheppard and partner Larry Ceppenati, James and Kathy Sheppard all of Bethalto and Robert and Carol Sheppard of Plantation, FL; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Rob and Tracy Henke of Moro, Matthew Sheppard and his fiancée, Tatjana Brkic, Elizabeth and Darren Dase of Plantation, FL, Kimberly Sheppard of Carrollton, Steven Sheppard and fiancée, Kimett Powell of Ocala, FL, Kelley Acker, Tracey Acker, Adam and Amanda Sheppard, Michele Sheppard and Amy Nolte all of Bethalto, Keith and Ashleigh Sheppard of Dorsey; twelve great grandchildren, Sydney and Sarah Henke, Dakota and Hunter Nolte, Tommy Pohlman, David and James Sheppard, Colin, Marshall and Jackson Dase and Brayden Sheppard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Diana, a sister, Lillian Simms, a brother, Charles Wiegand and a great granddaughter, Alexandria Henke.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Sunday, June, 23, 2013 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Bethalto United Methodist Church with Rev. Kimberly Allen officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
