Gerald Lee Stanton, 69, passed away at 12:02 pm Saturday, August 13, 2011 at St. John’s Mercy Health Care in St. Louis with his family by his side.
He was born on March 22, 1942 in Hartford, IL, the son of George and Elzora (Malone) Stanton.
He married Mary L. White on June 16, 1972 in Alton. She survives.
Gerald was a truck driver for 39 years and retired from Piasa Motor Fuels. He was a member of Teamsters Local 525. He enjoyed boating, fishing, drag racing and Cardinal Baseball. More than anything he loved spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Dennis Laird of Fairbanks, Alaska, Dena Laird and Scott Reagon of Arnold, MO, Shelly (Stanton) Ray and Casey Ray of Chesterfield, MO and Misty Stanton of Alton; eleven grandchildren, Brittany and Nick Corzine, Nathan McKey, Chakia Everage, Chelsea Stanton, Cynthia Vaughn, Megan Ray, Chade’ Everage, Chalyn Everage, Chalon Everage, Hanna Smith and Maverick Laird; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jim and Linda Stanton of Collinsville and Bob Stanton of Godfrey; a son-in-law, Mike Smith of Hartford; six nieces and their spouses, Sandy and Jimmy Vanzo of Holiday Shores, Robin and Steve Karlas of Godfrey, Julie and Greg Balasioli of Wood River, LouAnn and Gary Shoemaker of Rosewood Hieghts, Mary Beth Minton of Bethalto and Tina and Richard Pratt of Mt. Vernon, IN; three nephews and their spouses, David and Kathy Stanton of Godfrey, Bobby and Colleen Stanton of Godfrey and Jim and Patti Stanton of Hartford; an adopted daughter, Jennifer Jones of Alton and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Tina Miller, a brother, Louie Stanton and a sister-in-law, Rickey Stanton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 10 am on Friday, August 19, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Himmel officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the 5 A’s Animal Shelter.
