Gerald “Jerry” E. Sewell, 79, passed away Thursday November 8, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Alton on July 8, 1933 the son of the late George and Celestine (Noblitt) Sewell.
He married Margie Crayne in September of 1955, and she preceded him in death on January 28, 1996. On September 11, 2004 he married Nancy Massar at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Alton. She Survives.
Jerry served his country in the Army and was an active member of Alton VFW Post 1308. He was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ. He was a scoutmaster, a member of the Alton Municipal Band for fourteen years, the Bunker Hill Kiwanis Club, Shriner’s International-York Rite Bodies, Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 AF & AM in Alton, where he was a Past Master, Alton Area Antique Association, Alton Salvation Army twenty-seven years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William “Bill” and his wife Dionne Sewell of Roxana, IL; a sister Sandy Strohmeier, of Alton, and a brother-in-law, Ray and his wife Julie Massar, of St. Peters MO; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother George W. Sewell.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm Monday November 12, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL. Masonic Rites will be accorded at 7 pm by Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 AF & AM.
Funeral service will be at 10 am Tuesday November 13, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, with Rev Jerald MeCaskey officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by Alton VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Evangelical United Church of Christ.
