George Victor German, 72, died at 3:50 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2012 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.He was born in Jersey County on March 5, 1940, and was the son of the late George H. & Mary (Scoggins) German.He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492. He began working at the Grafton Boat Works until its closing, and then became a truck drive, first driving for Larry Main, and then for Beelman Trucking in Granite City.He married the former Denise Schumann on Sept. 15, 1986 in Jerseyville, and she survives.Also surviving are three daughters & sons in law, Janet & Alan Foster of Jerseyville, Nicole & Gary Ontis of Fieldon, and Vicki German, and her fiance', Keith Greenwood of Carlinville; seven grandsons; one granddaughter.He was preceded in death by his father, George German; his mother & step father, Mary & Walter Walker; and a daughter, Jessica (German) Hartley.Cremation rites have been accorded.A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., at the Kampsville American Legion. To honor his wishes, we ask for casual dress and cammo attire if desired.Flowers and plants will be respectfully declined, instead, it was his wish that memorials be given to the Riverbend Humane Society in Jerseyville.Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of the arrangements.
