George S. Hailer, 70, died at 8:06 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his residence. He was born May 19, 1942 the son of the late George L. Hailer and Virginia L. (Gross) Harris. He graduated from Alton High School in 1962. He retired after many years of service at Quality Pontiac; he was a lifetime member of the Alton Owls Club. He coached and was very involved with the Alton Area Athletic Association youth football program in the 70’s. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed wood working. There was no job he couldn’t tackle. On June 17, 1961 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church he married Carol Sue Schildroth and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter; Julie A. Swallow and her husband Keith of Rolla, MO, one son; George “Steve” Hailer of Alton, five grandchildren; Jeremy Bourland and his fiancée Vanessa Pearl of Cape Girardeau, MO, Jaimee (Bourland) Henderson and her husband Travis of Holt, MO, Jordan (Bourland) Brazzle and her husband Josh of Rolla, Mo, Amber Hailer and Ian Hailer of Alton, two great granddaughters; Jenna and Paige Henderson, one brother; Larry Hailer of East Alton, brothers-in-law; Ron Schildroth and Jeanette of Springhill, LA, John Schildroth and Janet of Douglasville, GA, Charlie schildroth and Nadine of Godfrey, Lennie Schildroth and Mary of Allegan, MI, Mike Schildroth and Lisa of Ballwin, MO, a sister-in-law; Sharon Yakubovich and Alex “Butch” of Bowling Green, KY, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in by his parents, his mother and father in law; Leonard and Eileen Schildroth, sister in law; Nora Hailer, brother and sister in law; Richard (Dick) and Lillian Schildroth and stepfather; Arthur G. Harris. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at GENT Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.
