 George Eldon Blotna, 90, died suddenly at 6:34 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012 in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

He was born in Macoupin County on Feb. 23, 1922, and was one of three children born to the late William & Mary (Werts) Blotna.George was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served his country in England during World War II.  It was while he was stationed there that he met his future wife, Elsie Williams.  The two married on Oct. 27, 1945 in her hometown of Cheltenham, England and they shared 65 years together before her death on June 23, 2011.He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and American Legion Post 492 all of Jerseyville, and retired in 1984 after 34 years of service as the Maintenance Supervisor at Duncan Foundry in Alton.Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Sperino of Jerseyville; a son & daughter in law, Ronald & Connie Blotna of Monmouth;  four grandchildren & their spouses, Craig & Laura Jones of Jerseyville, Cathy & Todd Campbell of Brighton, Christen & Jeremy Edwards of Dixon, Ashley & Drew Colwell of Springfield; six great grandchildren, Andrew, Collin, Colten, Trace, Tyler and Parker.In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Veronica Blotna; a son in law, Angelo Sperino; a sister & brother in law, Opal & Glen Myers; and a brother & sister in law, Earl & Mary Blotna.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday.  Rev. Dean Blackburn will officiate.Burial will be in the Tribble Cemetery near Piasa, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the Jerseyville American Legion Color Guard.
