George Droste

George Edward Droste, 87, died at 3:50 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital.  Born May 22, 1929 in Alton he was the son of Theodore and Mary (Brinkman) Droste.  Mr. Droste served in the U.S. Army and was a lifelong, original member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.  He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.  In 1991 he retired from Union Electric after 38 years of service.  On December 31, 1951 he married the former Margaret Maher in Bethalto.  She survives.  Also surviving are eight children, Margaret Mary “Margie” Dieren (James) of Olathe, KS, Mary Jo Ward (John) of Boonville, MO, Daniel Droste (Ruthie) of Paola, KS, Donald Droste (Patty Finn) of Alton, Eileen Daly (David) of Lenexa, KS, Nancy Curvey (Monty) of East Alton, Joseph Droste (Stacey Baca) of Godfrey, and Linda Droste of Edwardsville.  Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a brother, Paul Droste (Dorothy) of Alton and three sisters, Juliana Droste SSM of St. Louis, Julianna Mulrean of Godfrey, and Gertrude Droste of Godfrey.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben and David Droste and six sisters including infants, Agatha and Mary Droste, Agnes Hesse, Sister Mary Ann Droste OP, Sister Mary Delores Droste OSU, Sister Clare Droste SSM.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016.  Father Steve Pohlman will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.  Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
