George Peterie

George C. Peterie, 92, passed away at 12:21 am on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born on May 1, 1921 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Earl Joseph and Esther Irvella (Lay) Peterie.
He married Judith A. Green on September 10, 1984 and was previously married to Kathryn L. Mitchell.
George was a World War II Air Force Veteran with a rank of Corporal. He was a member of the Cherry Street Baptist Church and more recently joined the Rosewood Heights Church. He was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308, the Wood River Moose Lodge, American Legion, Sportsman Club, Shriners in East St. Louis, Masonic Lodge, Shriners of North America #22250, Piasa Masonic Lodge #27 and the East Alton American Legion.
He was a local Realtor and Appraiser in this area since 1952. He was given a lifetime membership with the Alton – Wood River Board of Realtors and the Appraisal Institute. He taught Real Estate and Appraisal classes for five years at our local Lewis and Clark Community Collage and received many professional awards for his civic accomplishments.
He is survived by four children and their spouses, Georgia Harris of Auburn, Maine, Rebecca and her husband, Steve Rudkin of San Bernardino, CA, Brenda and her husband, Keith Thaxton of South Roxana and Donald Green of Wood River; eleven grandchildren, Christopher L.King of Des Moines, IA, Jennifer L. King of Auburn, ME, Letisha Rudkin of Fontana, CA, Jeffrey Sanders of Fontana, CA, Robert Rudkin of Austin, TX, Eddie Rudkin Jr of Mubbach, Germany, Renee Kelley of Austin, TX, Jackie Thaxton of IN, Jenni Thaxton of South Roxana, J.D. Thaxton of South Roxana and Renee Aguirre of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren, Katie King, Destiny L. Levesque, Colby L. Levesque, Alan Rudkin, Jeffrey Sanders, Letisha Jewel Rudkin, Shawn Rudkin, Jan Cranfill, Kasie Fonseca and Harlee Pedroza and a nephew, Guy Raynor of Raymore, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Judith A. Peterie a son, George Michael, a sister, Lucille Raynor and daughter, Rhonda Aguirre.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, July 15, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf in Bethalto with Dr. Glen Greenwood officiating.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
