George Corzine

George “Ben” Corzine, 95, died at 11:47 a.m. Tuesday, June 5,2018 at his home. Born September 13, 1922 in Alton, he was the son of Cellestine and Louise (Markley) Corzine. Mr. Corzine served in the U.S. 8th Air Force as a Turret Gunner on a B-17 during WWII and was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. He retired as an engineer from Illinois Bell Telephone Company after 37 years of service. On November 24, 1948 he married the former Bernice Josephine Vaughn in Godfrey. She preceded him in death on March 28, 1995. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Jerri and Greg Franklin of Lake St. Louis, MO and a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sheril Corzine of Alton. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jason Corzine (Melissa) of Alton, Nicholas Corzine (Alicia) of St. Paul, MO, Matthew Corzine (Dawn) of Collinsville, Christine Ash (William) of Brighton, John Riegerix (Mandy) of Florissant, MO, Joseph Riegerix of Denver, CO, and Melissa Havermann (Alex) of Madison, WI and six great grandchildren. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Corzine and a sister, Mary Goodpasture. A prayer service will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by visitation until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2018 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steven Janowski will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
