Gene Mullink, 79, of Bunker Hill, IL, died at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, MO on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 6:54 am. He was born November 30, 1944, in Bunker Hill, IL to Anton J. Mullink & Kathryn Sneeringer Mullink. He married Marie A. Kuruc Mullink on October 15, 1966 in Gillespie, IL. He was retired after having been the lead machinist for Olin Corporation in East Alton, IL. Gene enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. He was famous for his homemade salsa, home grown popcorn and kettle corn. He could fix anything that was broken. Gene loved the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Rams. He especially loved hanging out with his grandkids. Gene is survived by his spouse, Marie Mullink of Bunker Hill, IL, children, Gina Schwegel of Bunker Hill, IL, Lisa (Jim) Spencer of Bunker Hill, IL, Jeffrey "Furry" (Whitney) Mullink of Bunker Hill, IL, grandchildren, Jacob Schwegel, Rachel Schwegel, Zachary (Rachel) Klaustermeier, Sydney (Adam) Brewer, Mallory (Libby) Kasinger, Kaylee Klaustermeier, Kyle Mullink, Ethan Mullink, Jake Spencer, great-grandchildren, Aria Brewer, Emmett Brewer, Addaline Klaustermeier, sisters, Alice (Allen) Greeling of Bunker Hill, IL, Jane Diestelhorst of Bunker Hill, IL, Ruth Ann Biermann of Carrollton, IL, brother in law, Ray (Norma) Kuruc of New Jersey, numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, son in law, Jeff Klaustermeier, sisters, Lois Meehan, Rosalia K. Rhoads, Betty Scott, brothers, Leonard Mullink, Harold Mullink, James Mullink, Thomas Mullink and Frank Mullink. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at St. Michael's Church in Staunton, IL from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at St. Michael's Church in Staunton, IL from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral mass will be on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Church in Staunton, IL. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Bunker Hill, IL. Following the committal service, there will be a celebration of life and lunch at Red's Tavern in Bunker Hill, IL.
