Gene F. Kratschmer, 86, passed away on February 3, 2012 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo
He was born in Alton on September 19, 1925 to Frederick J. and Mayme F. (Krepel) Kratschmer.
He married Mary Ann Penning June 17, 1950 she preceded him on February 25, 1975. He then married Patti (Flippo) nee: Toolen on January 1, 1996 and she survives.
Gene was a CPA for 45 years the last 40 years as a partner at Scheffel and Company. He was a member of the AICPA, Illinois Institute of CPA’s, Past President of Alton Rotary Club, Southwest Illinois United Way Campaign Chairman and the American Legion Post 2910. He served his country in the Naval Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. He attended St. Patrick’s Grade School, Marquette High School, and Alton High School Class of 1943. He attended Washington University in St. Louis and earned a BSBA in Accounting in 1948. Gene was a noted musician and played with local bands, Hank Penning, Carol Peters and Ronnie Klaus among others. He was a lifetime member of the Musicians Local 282.
He is survived by his wife Patti, seven children and their spouses, Mark (Mary Jo) Kratschmer of Godfrey, Lynne (John) Troyan of Dorsey, Michael (Karen) Kratschmer of Plainfield, IL, Bo (Lori) Kratschmer of Edwardsville, Jeff (Michelle) Kratschmer of Godfrey, Val (Flippo) (Brian) Vogt of Germantown, TN, Toni (Flippo) (Nelson) Palmer of Dallas, TX, grandchildren and their spouses Ted, Christopher, John, Eric, Kelly, Katy and Livy Kratschmer, Mary (Robert) Vandevord, Jessica Dow , Ashley Mize, Nathan and Gretchen Vogt, great-grandchild Ivy Jade Vandevord, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Mary Ann.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 12 noon to 4 pm Sunday February 5, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Funeral Service will be celebrated at 12 noon Monday February 6, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Father Steve Pohlman celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey where Military Rites will be conducted by the Alton VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team.
Memorials may be made to the St. Anthony’s Foundation or Marquette Catholic High School Foundation.
