Gary Rose
Hardin |
Gary Joseph Rose, 67, of Hardin, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 1, 2024.
Gary was born on February 5, 1957, to Jerome and Virginia (Kinder) Rose. He married Diana (Simon) on October 11, 1975.
Gary was an extremely proud Dad and Grandpa /“Pa”. He loved his grandchildren, attending their activities, sporting events, and taking them on 4-wheeler rides.
He was a talented wood worker and loved spending time in his garage. He was a handy man that his wife and children depended on. Gary never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Gary was employed at Olin Winchester Corporation for 46 years and had been counting down the days to his retirement, so he could spend even more time with his family. After his retirement in February 2022, you could find Gary at the Illinois Riverdock enjoying breakfast and visiting with friends. He kept busy with his many projects, “tinkering” in his garage, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Gary was a member of St. Norbert’s Catholic Church. He was a past member of the Calhoun County Zoning Board. He volunteered for Calhoun County Rural Water District for 30 years and served as the President for the past 17 years.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by their 7 children:
Brad (Anna) Rose of Batchtown, Lisa (Jesse) Klaas of Hardin, Chris Rose of Rockford, Jennifer (Kyle) Eilerman of Batchtown, Heather (Justin) Griffis of O’Fallon, MO, Allison (Brett) Greenwell of Godfrey and Eric Rose of Hardin.
He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren: Bradley, William, Emma and Nicolas Rose, Grant and Owen Klaas, Brantley Rose, Blake, Brynlyn, and Logan Eilerman, Liam and Hailey Griffis, Connor, Bryce and Alaina Greenwell.
Gary is survived by his sister, Jean (Tom) Nolte and brothers, Alan Rose (Kay VanArsdale) and Neil (Tracy) Rose.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Stacy, his parents, and his father-in-law, Lawrence Simon.
He will be greatly missed by his family. They will always remember his love and dedication to his family and willingness to help without hesitation.
