Gary I. Edwards, 76 of Godfrey died at 11:56 PM on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born August 15, 1937 in Alton the son of the late James I. and Louise (Jansen) Edwards. Gary retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1981 after 26 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He then spent 10 years as a communication specialist with McDonnell Douglas Corp retiring in 1991.
He married the former Teruko Ishimura on June 3, 1959 in Tokyo, Japan. She survives. Also surviving are two sons; Gregory T. Edwards and Steven I. Edwards (Lisa) of Godfrey, four grandchildren; Tyler, Abby, Jo Jo and Kimber, and one sister; Kathy Oulson (Bob) of Godfrey.
A memorial visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with full military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308 at 7:00 PM.
