Gary Arnold Crain, 71, died at 4:54 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton. He was born September 11, 1942 in Alton the son of the late Walter A. and Evelyn (Parker) Crain. He worked as a cook for many years at Dick and Barb’s Bar and Grill in Bethalto. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, member of the Knights of Columbus in Bethalto, an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Illini fan. Gary had a great heart and never met a stranger. He was a very compassionate person who enjoyed his family, friends and music. He is survived by his close companion; Jackie Ewing of East Alton, one daughter; Sonya Crain King of Springfield, IL and one son Gary Michael Crain of Mt. Olive, IL, six grandchildren; Justin King, Andrew Crain, Amanda King, Christina King, Jennifer Searcy, and Thomas Searcy, five great grandchildren, four step sons; Richard, Jimmy, Brian and Dennis Ewing, nine step grandchildren and one step great grandchild, four sisters; Janice St. Clair (Jeff) of Bunker Hill, IL, Judith Cox of Cottage Hills, Cathy Gray (Ed) of Alton and Mary Mahon (Paul) of Metamora, IL, one brother in law; Ronald Creamer of Godfrey and his mother in law; Dorothy Waggoner of Alton. He was preceded in death by one sister; Cynthia Creamer and one brother; Stephen Crain. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Ray Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barrack’s National Cemetery in St. Louis with full Military Honors by VFW Post 1308 Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus in Bethalto.
