Garrett Short

Garrett Stephen Short, 21, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in Chicago, IL.


He was born on Nov. 26 1989 in Jerseyville, and was the oldest child born to Eric A. & Stephanie M. (Abbott) Short.  Garrett grew up in Jerseyville, and attended East Elementary, Illini Junior High, and Jersey Community High School, where he participated in football, and was a member the show choir and thespian society.  He graduated in 2008 from Edwardsville High School, where he too, was active in the theatre department.
Garrett was currently working at Subway on S. Western Avenue in Chicago, and had attended University of Illinois-Chicago where he was a theatre major, aspiring to become an actor one day, and had always dreamed of making it big and enjoying the big city life. Garrett was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, a  hard worker, good hearted, and very loving to both his family & his friends, who was the constant entertainer with a beautiful voice.


Surviving are his mother, Stephanie Abbott, and her fiance' Marvin Frazier of Jerseyville; his father & stepmother, Eric & Sara Short of Edwardsville; a sister, Carli Short a student at Western Illinois University in Macomb; his little brother, Luke Webster at home; three step siblings, Levi & Kelsey Frazier at home, and Nathan Young of Edwardsville; his grandparents, David & Patricia East of Jerseyville, and Coy Short, and his companion, Jackie Hegg of Athens, Tn., Ethel "Pidge" Huff, and her companion, Ron Ranson of Carrollton, and George & Betty Maher of Godfrey; great grandparents, Mildred Russell of Jerseyville, and William & Dorothy East of Jerseyville; along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.


He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Stephen Abbott; his grandmothers, Thelma Yvonne Short & Shirley Short.


Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday.  Revs. Paul Guerin & Rob Booth will officiate.


He will be laid to rest beside his grandfather at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.


Memorials may be given to his family in care of Crawford Funeral Home.
