Garnett Delores (Bockholdt) Clay, 92, formerly of Grafton, went home to be with her heavenly Father, Friday morning, December 4, 2020 at her home.
Garnett was born in Grafton on January 23, 1928 to the late Louie and Rosetta (Worthey) Bockholdt.
Garnett attended Grafton public school through junior year of high school and completed her education, graduating from Alton High School in 1946.
She married Donald Earl Clay on August 2, 1946 in Grafton and together they celebrated 54 years together before Don's passing on April 1, 2000.
Garnett was full of personality and was admired by all. She was always loving and giving in everything she did.
She was employed at Beverly Farms in Alton for 14 years and later at the Grafton Senior Center for another 14 years, in addition to working at the Grafton Visitors Center for many years.
Later in life, her personality bloomed. She became quite the spitfire and such a joy to be around.
She was a member of Grafton Full Gospel Church for the majority of her life and in her most recent years was attending Bethel Pentecostal Church in East Alton.
Garnett is survived by her children, Terry (Penny) Clay of Rosewood Heights, Oletia Clay of Alton and Dennis Clay of Wentzville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Kim (Scott) Norman of Wright City, Missouri, Carol (Tim) Friedel of Golden Eagle, Rennee (Aaron) Larkin Wood River, Bradley Clay of Baton Rouge, Louisianna, Eli Clay of Wentzville, Missouri and Jeremy (Emily) Clay of Wentzville, Missouri; thirteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald Clay; a great grandson, Zachary Norman; a half-sister, Opal Hancock; as well as two half-brothers, Lawrence Reeves and Howard Bockholdt.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Bethel Pentecostal Church in East Alton.
Burial will follow at Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to Bethel Pentecostal Church in East Alton, in care of Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, who has been entrusted with arrangements
