Frederick Charles Hoffman, 77, died at 10:55 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
Born January 26, 1933 in Alton, he was the son of Otto and Flora (Brunworth) Hoffman. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In 1998 he retired as an account manager from Siemens USA after 25 years of service. He married the former Pauline “Polly” Barbara Kotschar on August 24, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Pama L. and Raven Buchanan of Indianapolis, IN, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Lynn Hoffman of Godfrey, three grandchildren, Jason Buchanan, Lauren Buchanan and Nathanael Hoffman, two sisters, Mary Lou Harlan of Santa Monica, CA and Ruth Monroe and her husband Bussie of Godfrey along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dottie Whalen.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Jim Walther will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Masses or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
