Frederick A. Wuellner, 89, passed away at 6:02 PM, November 19, 2012 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Alton, IL on July 16, 1923 the son of the late Andrew J. and Emma (Leib) Wuellner.
On December 30, 1947 he married his loving wife of 65 years, Betty J. Purcell, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton, IL.
Frederick was President of J.J. Wuellner & Son Construction Co. He served in the US Army during WWII. He fought in the Invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach and served in North Africa and Italy. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, a member of the VFW Post 1308, was the past president of Southern Illinois Builders Association (SIBA), past president of Riverbend Growth Assoc., a member of the board of directors of Home Savings and Loan and longtime member and board member of Lockhaven Country Club. He attended the University of Cincinnati and Washington University.
He is survived by his wife Betty; three daughters, Patricia Smith and her late husband A.J. Smith of Godfrey, Sue (John) Wuellner-Derr of Alton, Christine Wuellner of Alton; three sons, August (Maura) Wuellner of Godfrey, Edward (Jennifer) Wuellner of Apex, N.C., Michael (Tami) Wuellner of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Lois Wuellner of Alton; two brothers, Donald (Vera) Wuellner of Alton, Thomas (Jane) Wuellner of Alton; twelve grandchildren, Julie (Kent) Sauvage, Matthew (Jennifer) Smith, Leigh and Mitch Wuellner, Sean (Liz) Holloway, Andrew, Alexandra and Hayley Clark, Nathan and Hannah Wuellner, Joseph and Taylor Wuellner; and four great grandchildren, Kaitlin and Jacob Sauvage, Wil and Jenna Holloway.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Wuellner.
Visitation will be from 3 pm to 6 pm, Friday, November 23, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL.
Visitation will continue at 9:30 am, Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, IL until funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father Steve Pohlman officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Saint Anthony’s Hospital Foundation, St. Ambrose Church or Masses.
Military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 1308.
