Franklin L. Manns, 78, passed away at 2:52 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born August 30, 1933 in North Alton, IL the son of the late Fred Minard and Goldie (De Vor) Manns. He was employed by the City of Alton in the street maintenance department retiring after 22 years. He then worked and retired from SIUE in the maintenance department. He was also owner of M & H Lawn and Tree Service. On October 3, 1982 in Alton he married Laura Hensley and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter; Shirley Richardson and her husband Bryan of Godfrey, two sons; Tony Hensley and his wife Amy of Edwardsville and Joseph Peter Hensley and his wife Tammy of Godfrey, 13 wonderful grandchildren ages 2 to 24, one brother; William E. Manns and his wife Doris of Alton, two sisters; Alice Hughes of East Alton and Ivis Chism of Georgia. He was preceded in death by one son; Timothy Allen Hensley, one brother; George G. Manns and one sister; Mary Chism Giles. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at GENT Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Shawn Monahan, OMV, officiating. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery with Military Honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association. Additional information and online guest book may be found at
