Francis Darr Jr., 84, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Robings Manor in Brighton. Born July 7, 1928 in Jersey County, he was the son of Francis and Ethel (Winters) Darr Sr. On August 8, 1948 in Alton, he married Gail Glenn. She survives. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the North Alton Southern Baptist Church, Franklin Masonic Lodge 25 AF & AM, Scottish Rite in Belleville, Ainad Shrine Temple in East St. Louis, and the Order of Eastern Star Bethalto Chapter. He retired as a machinist from Laclede Steel after over 40 years of service. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Steven LaFleur of Bartlesville, OK, and Diane and John Valendy of O’Fallon, MO, two grandsons, Jeremy LaFleur ( Lauren) of St. Louis, MO, and Eric LaFleur of St. Louis, MO, and a brother, Floyd Darr (Sylvia) of Shipman. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012. Reverend Steven LaFleur will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey will full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to the National Stroke Association.
