Florence Griffin
Bethalto |
Florence Aleen (Miller) Griffin was born Oct. 16, 1932, in St. Clair, MO. She was the daughter of George and Nettie (Hoff) Miller. She was the fifth child born of six who all preceded her in death.
At the age of 91, after a short illness, she entered into peace with God on September 2, 2024, at her home in Bethalto with her family and friends, who loved and cherished her, by her side.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Lee Griffin on December 27, 2015, and by her daughter Pamela Jean Griffin on May 7, 1967.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her surviving children are Diana Webb of Granite City, IL, Monica (Kelly) Boyd of Alva, FL, and Daniel Lee Griffin of Cottage Hills, IL. Florence has 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren that were all her pride and joy, and she dearly loved them so very much. Florence was a dedicated loving mother and friend who brought bounding love and laughter into the lives of all that she had touched.
Florence was quite young when her family moved to Roxana, IL in 1937 and attended Roxana Schools until she met the love of her life and married Carlos L. Griffin on Sept 27, 1952, at St Mary’s Church in Alton, IL - where they lived and raised their 4 children.
She graduated from Ursuline Convent Business School and worked with Mother Florita at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a bookkeeper. She received her license of Cosmetology in 1979 and opened her own beauty salon which she named Henry Street Hair Salon. A second salon was opened in 1987 which was named Marguerite’s Beauty Salon. She finally retired in 2004 at the age of 72.
Florence was an active member of St. Ann’s Alter Society of St Mary’s church as well as a long-standing choir member with her husband.
Florence was especially known to all who knew her for her love of cooking. There wasn’t a single morning, noon, or night that she wasn’t prepared to cook a delicious home cooked meal made with love for anyone that walked into her home.

A special thanks to all the staff at Villa Rose Senior Living Community that helped her in so many ways and were a big part of her daily life and became like family to her. She loved “her girls” so much and was so happy to see their smiling faces to say, “Good morning!”
