Everett “Val” Valdon Bourland

Everett “Val” Valdon Bourland, 90, went to be with the Lord at 2:30 pm Friday, September 24, 2010 at Bethalto Care Center. 
 

He was born on October 19, 1919 in Elba, IL, the son of Thomas M. & Fairy Opal (Ramsey) Bourland.


He married Dorothy Irene Gaither on October 6, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama. She passed away on November 30, 2007.


Val served his country in the U. S. Army from 1941 until 1945 during World War II.  He was an insulator at Shell Oil Company for 42 years retiring in 1982.  He was a presently a member of the Bethalto Church of God; he was very involved thought out his life with his church as a Deacon, past church Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher.  He loved his farm in Southern Illinois, gardening, hunting, fishing and was a bee keeper.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren knew him as “Pa Val”.


He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, and one son and daughter-in-law, Beverly & Don Rhodes, Gary & Wanda Bourland all of Bethalto and Debbie Bourland and fiancé Danny Smith of Enid, OK;  three grandchildren and a spouse, Jeffrey Bourland of St. Louis, Jeremy & Mary Bourland of Wentzville, and Amy Bourland of Bethalto; two great grandchildren, Trenton and Taylor Bourland of Wentzville and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Lawrence and two brothers, Carol and Vern Bourland.


In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, September 27, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Jeremy Robinson officiating.


Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with the Alton VFW Post 1308 doing military rites.


Memorials may be made to the Bethalto Church of God Building Fund.
