Evelyn M Fultz

Edwardsville | Saturday, November 19 2011

On November 19, 2011, Evelyn M Fultz (nee Vieth) passed away peacefully at home. Precious and loving mother of Cynthia Hartman and Susan Fultz of Edwardsville and Robert Fultz of Ketchikan, Alaska; an infant son preceded her in death. Much-loved grandmother of Mason Ocean of Edwardsville; Sean Fultz of Ketchikan, Alaska; Ian Fultz and Tiffany (Hargraves) Tombaugh of Fairbanks, Alaska; great-granddaughter, Lillie Tombaugh. Evelyn was born June 7, 1927, in Edwardsville to Anton C and Ruth A (Haas) Vieth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray D Fultz; parents and sister, Marian. Evelyn’s connection with Spirit was not limited by tradition and was expressed in the many acts of kindness that defined her life. She attended St Boniface Church and was a member of the Baha'i Faith. Evelyn’s free spirit was expressed through her love of song, dance, and other forms of creativity. While still in high school, she sang with Joe Ladd and his jazz band. She often opened her home to many area musicians for impromptu jam sessions, where she joined in on her guitar.  An artist at heart, her creativity was also expressed in poetry and other forms of creative writing, drawing, sewing, and crochet. Evelyn was active in the peace and civil rights movements, loved reading medical books, and worked for several area physicians. She was a graduate of Edwardsville High School (class of '45) and attended Olin School of Nursing.

Evelyn loved and cared for her neighborhood's feral cat population; donations may be made to the Metro-East Humane Society on her behalf. A celebration of her life will be held at Springer's Woods when the violets bloom next Spring. Her smile, sparkling eyes, and kindness will be missed by those who knew her.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.
