Evelyn Richmond
Saint Louis |
Evelyn Karen Jamerson Richmond of St. Louis, Missouri died peacefully with her son, Fred, at her bedside on May 28th, 2022 at St. Lukes Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.
She was born on January 18, 1941.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 48 years, Armin L. Richmond, St. Louis, her parents, Corbin and Bernice Jamerson, St. Louis, and a brother, Don C. Jamerson of Concord, California. Surviving are her son Fred C. Richmond (Stacy) and sister, Sandie Jamerson Hawthorne (Jon) of The Villages, Florida.
Born in Alton, Illinois, Evelyn lived most of her life in Wood River with one year in San Mateo, California when "Dad" was transferred with his company. Graduating from East Alton, Wood River Community High School in 1956, Evelyn participated in every chorus and choir she could, singing soprano. She and her sister, Sandie were entertainers as a sister duo, singing at homecomings, and all kinds of events in Madison County, and sometimes in the St. Louis area on Russ David and The Ed Wilson TV shows. They also sang with a local band, Joe Greenwell and his Sunset Valley Boys on many gigs and radio WOKZ.
The other hobby she loved was reading and keeping all books she ever read. Evelyn had a small library of her own and would not part with one book. She read many books more than one time! She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wood River for many years until she married and moved to St. Louis. Evelyn had many records of perfect attendance, and all trips out of town required her parents to halt the trip so that she and her sister could attend Sunday School in churches far away from home.
Evelyn had a kind words for everyone and was loved by everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life gathering will be at her home, on July 3, 2022, for family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation of any amount to "The Little Free Library" in Evelyn's name. She would have loved to help others access books in many less fortunate areas of our country.
