Evelyn Elizabeth Haufe, 87, died at 7:55 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. Born September 10, 1924 in Woodburn, IL, she was the daughter of George and Elsie (Heal) Thomas. She was a self-employed housekeeper working in various homes and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. In 1946 in Alton, she married Joseph Haufe. He preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Siemer and her husband Richard of Brighton, a son, Joseph Haufe of Alton, a daughter-in-law, Jody Haufe of Alton, two grandchildren, Matt Siemer of Alton, and Doug Haufe of Alton, several nieces and nephews, and two sisters, Georgia Mae Howell and Marie Ipock. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters. Private graveside services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
