Evelyn Anita Marshall, 81, passed away at 12:03 pm Thursday July 7, 2011 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton with her family by her side.

She was born on December 24, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri the daughter of the late Gordon and Fern (Newberry) Thompson.

She married William Michael Marshall on November 24, 1951, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO.

Evelyn worked at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she was a member, as a custodian. She was also a member of the Altar Society and the choir.  Evelyn helped found the Exchangette Club of Alton and was an active member of the Exchange Club of Alton.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, William Marshall, four daughters: Debra “Debbie” Marshall of Alton, Sharon Zitzman of Godfrey, Susan “Susie” and her spouse Jim Rago of Aurora, IN, Kathleen “Kathy” Marshall of Alton; three sons: Michael “Mike” and his spouse Judi Marshall of Griswold, CT; Robert “Bob” Marshall of St. Louis, MO; and Brian Marshall and his significant other Amy Brown of East Alton; fourteen grandchildren: Kathla, Sarah, and Jonathan Marshall, Brittany Barta, Stephen and Elizabeth Marshall, Jennifer, Drew, and Sofia Marshall, Melissa Certa, Nicole Carter, and Stephanie, Michael, and Josh Pecoraro: four great grandchildren: Hanah Pecoraro, and  Chloe, Caden, and Caleb Carter.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Marshall, and two sisters: Dorothy Vance and June Thompson, and one brother: James Thompson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Sunday July 10, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am Monday July 11, 2011 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Monsignor Jerome Buchheit and Fr. Steve Pohlman as Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
