Evelyn A. Schanzle, 93, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
She was born on December 20, 1916 in Portage de Sioux, MO, the daughter of John Henry & Edith (Brass) Mintert.
Evelyn was a graduate of Marquette Catholic High School and attended the College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. Before she was married, Evelyn was employed at the Illinois Terminal Railroad, working in the offices in Alton and St. Louis, MO. She married Franklin L. Schanzle on October 20, 1951 at the Immaculate Conception Church in West Alton, MO. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2007.
Evelyn was a former member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton, where she was on the Altar Society and Mothers Club and was presently a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, William L Schanzle of Alton and Edward F. and Carey Schanzle, of Peoria, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Beatrice Machens and Mary Gooch and one brother, Ralph Mintert.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. Delix Michel S.S.L. as celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to masses at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
