Eugene Kress "Bitsy" Bartlett

BRIGHTON-  Eugene Kress "Bitsy" Bartlett, 64, died at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Robings Manor in Brighton after several years of declining health.He was born in Carrollton on Aug. 20, 1947 one of three children born to Eugene Rekus & Violet Mae (Plummer) Bartlett.Growing up on the farm, Gene graduated in 1965 from Jersey Community High School.  He entered the U.S. Army, where he served his country during the Vietnam War, and returned home, where he became employed at Boeing Manufacturing in St. Louis where he was a machinist retiring in 1999 after 32 years of service.Bitsy enjoyed his family, being with his children, spoiling his grandchildren, attending car swap meets, drag racing events, and had a soft spot for his favorite car, the Chevelle.He married the former Theresa Powell on May 25, 1973 in Jerseyville, and they have shared the last 38 years together.Surviving are his wife, Theresa Bartlett of Brighton; his mother, Violet Bartlett of Brighton; three children & their spouses, James David & Christy Foutch of St. Clair, Mo., Stacy & Robert Krupco of Brighton, and Patrick Eugene & Morgan Bartlett of Godfrey; four grandchildren, Christian & Jamie Foutch, Colby & Calleigh Krupco; a sister & brother in law, Jane & Mike Heitzig of Jerseyville; a brother & sister in law, Paul & Mary Bartlett of Brighton; his mother in law, Bernice Cox of Alton.He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene R. Bartlett.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday.  Rev. Donald Stribling will officiate.He will be buried at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Brighton where he was a member or to the American Diabetes Association.
