Dateline: AltonEugene “Gene” Vincent Roth, 82, died with loved ones at his side on Friday afternoon September 11, 2015 at Integrity Health Care in Godfrey.He was born August 4, 1933 in Michael, IL, the son of Anthony & Katherine RothGene married Laverne Pohlman on June 2, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brussels.  She preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2004.He served his country in the Army and then worked as a machinist for Olin Matheson until he retired in 1975.  He was also a longtime member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey and a member of the Alton-Wood River Sportsman’s Club.Gene is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Cindy Roth of Alton and Tom and Jennifer Roth of Godfrey, three daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and Dan Bolin of Godfrey, Deb and Jack Hoefert of Godfrey, and Terry and Dave Stephan of Madison, Alabama; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Andrea Roth, Greg and Jessica Roth, Katie and Mike Dohr, Shelby Roth and Jake Roth, David and Amy Bolin, Michelle and Kenny Jamison, Chris Hoefert,  Laura Hoefert and fiancé Jason Sandidge, and Sarah Hoefert, and Matt Stephan and Molly Stephan, thirteen great grandchildren Samantha, David Jr, and Jonathan Bolin, KJ and Valerie Jamison, Ella and Alana Roth, Andrew, Tyler, and Caden Roth, Brady, Alex, and Robert Dohr; and a sister-in-law, Edna Roth of Hardin, IL.In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step father, Carl Snyders; one sister, Edna Roth, and one brother, Bill Roth.In celebration of Gene’s life, visitation will be from 9 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am Monday September 14, 2015 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Father Steve Pohlman as celebrant.Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic School or Marquette Catholic High School.Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.An online tribute and guestbook can be found at
