Eugene Cranmer

Eugene “Crutch” Cranmer, 91, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his home in Jerseyville. Born July 20, 1921 in Alton, he was the son of Eugene and Anna (Lamparter) Cranmer. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308. He retired from the Illinois Terminal Railroad in Alton. On February 14, 1946 he married the former Betty Lewis. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2010. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Garry Wineinger of Ocala, FL, and Terry and Bill Wood of Jerseyville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Terry Cranmer of Godfrey, and Kelly and Sheri Cranmer of Alton, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, one brother, Harry Cranmer of Alton and a sister, Vivian Douglas of Godfrey. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Eugene Cranmer Jr., a brother, Sonny Cranmer, and two sisters, Lillian Heckman and Viola Heckman. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Reverend Larry Hayes will officiate. A dinner will follow the burial at the First Assembly of God Church in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the Mustard Seed Peace Project, 856 Chouteau, Godfrey, IL 62035.
