Eugene C. Bechtold, 77, died at 10:08 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born November 9, 1934 in Beltrees, IL, he was the son of Henry and Anna (Wendle) Bechtold. Mr. Bechtold served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Beltrees and the American Legion in Grafton. He retired from the shipping department at Owens Illinois in Godfrey. After retiring he enjoyed repairing small engines as a hobby. Surviving is a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sharon Bechtold of Godfrey, a sister-in-law, Rosemary Bechtold of Godfrey, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Bechtold and a sister, Loretta Bregenzer. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 31 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Beltrees. Father William Hembrow will officiate.
