Esther Fay Ritter, 100, died at 7:45 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2010 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on in Hardin on Jan. 29, 1910, one of four daughters born to the late Louis & Rebecca (Smith) Taviner. At the age of 19, Esther married Joseph Adam Riiter on April 2, 1929 at the St. Francis DeSal Catholic Church in St. Louis, Mo and they shared 27 years together before he was tragically killed in an automobile accident of July 4, 1956.
Surviving are three children & their spouses, Barry & Virginia Ritter of Jerseyville, Michael & Mary Ann Ritter and Margie & Fred Walther all of Murfreesboro, Tn.; a daughter in law, Betty Ritter of Jerseyville; 19 Grandchildren; 21 Great Grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Taft of Moro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Robert Ritter; a granddaughter, Erika Rose Ritter; and two sisters, Evelyn Bertrang and Elizabeth Singleton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a prayer service will be read at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Chrstian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father D. Patrick Gibbons and William Hembrow officiating.
Burial will take place in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools of Jerseyville.
